Entry Requirements For Nursing School

Nursing has rapidly become one of the most well-liked professions in many countries.

As the need for nurses has increased, it has also become more difficult to be admitted to one of the many nursing schools available to those wishing to go into the field. Nurses must be intellectual, patient, caring, and have a vast experience of the human body and its physiological functions.

Most nursing schools require that you pass the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) test. The TEAS will test you on your primary academic abilities including sections on math, science, and English.

Some schools also require another exam called the HESI (Health Education Systems Exam). The majority of the material covered in these exams can be learned thru high school education, however some students may want to sign up for college courses which specifically prepare students for these tests.

The best preparation that you’ll have to successfully be admitted to a nursing school is to enroll in the proper courses in high school. According to the Board of Registered Nursing, you are required to not only have a high school diploma, but it is recommended that the following courses be taken in high school:

-English (4 years)

-Math (3-4 years)

-Science (2-4 years)

-Social Studies (3-4 years)

-Foreign Language (2 years, not required but advised)

While these courses may not necessarily be pre-requisites for acceptance into nursing school, most faculties like students who have challenged themselves and scored well in these types of classes.

Most nursing schools will require that you’ve gone and taken either the SAT or the ACT prior to applying for admissions. Another examination called the National League for Nursing Pre-Admission Exam is also required by some schools.

Other, non-academic requirements are also needed so as to enter the medical field. These requirements include:

-Background checks and drug screening

-Physical exam performed by an approved medical specialist

-Proper vaccinations and evidence of immunizations

-Proof you’re authorized to perform CPR on adults, kids, and infants

These requirements are fairly standard for any individual entering the medical profession. You will feel this is a lot so as to simply sign up for nursing school, but our society has matured to a state in which medicine is taken very seriously.
